About blog

First of all: welcome!

You are now on a blog dedicated to my year-long trip to Japan, where I am studying at the University of Kanazawa which lies on the western coast of Honshu (the biggest island of the Japanese archipelago).

What will you find here? Hmm, I’d love to say “everything”, but that’d be a bit of an exaggeration. I definitely intend to write about my “adventures” in Japan and travel experiences, meaning both travels around the city and around the country (and, hopefully, nearby places abroad too). I will do my best to upload as many pictures as possible and, whenever necessary, provide you with links where you’ll find more information about the places and things I’ve talked about. I will also try to find some time for a bit of talking about the Japanese culture – both traditional, for which Kanazawa is renowned, and contemporary – history, practices, mentality, views… Experiences of writing the previous blog, where I also talked about my time in Japan, taught me that people do want to read about things like that, but also how quickly the “new” becomes “everyday”. So, please: if there’s anything that you’re interested in or something you’d like to ask me about, or something that you’d like me to talk about, let me know (leave a comment or try one of the other means of contact listed under the “About me” heading).

I’ll try to introduce some order to the blog through tags. Right now I have seven – adventures, culture, everyday life, food, history, travels and pop-culture – but it’s possible that I’ll add something as I go along. And let’s be clear: the tags will definitely overlap, after all nothing’s black or white and of course that pop-culture can go hand in hand with food, while everyday life mixes with adventures. It’s just that if someone is interested in one area only, or interested in one more than in others, they can click in the corresponding tag and read only what’s under that. And don’t be afraid to suggest something. Just because right now there isn’t a tag such as, for example, language doesn’t mean that it won’t appear here at all nor that I won’t write a series of posts related to that. If only there will be a group of people interested in something, I will do my best to deliver. I just think that the tags that are here now may interest you more and that there may be less articles on them than on other stuff (like for example language).

And, well, very shortly, but that is all about the blog. I hope it’ll be found interesting not just by my family and friends, whom I’d like to take the opportunity to say “hello” to (coz I can, that’s why!), but also by complete strangers who are fascinated by Japan and/or who like to read blogs about travelling and foreign cultures.

Oh, and one more thing! I simultaneously write this blog in Polish, for all my non-English speaking family and friends. I usually write in Polish first and then translate back into English, but sometimes I may even write a post late at night, which means that the two blogs may not run as simultaneously as one would hope. So apologies if I leave an entry in English until a bit later or even until the next day, I will do what I can to make sure that I’m not publishing an entry too much later after I did it on the other blog, but I make no promises.
